Ganderbal, Sep 13(KNS): Ganderbal Police have solved two separate livestock theft cases, recovering sheep worth several lakhs and arresting three individuals involved in the crimes, a police spokesperson said in a statement to KNS, on Saturday.
On September 8 and September 11, PS Kheerbawani and PS Kangan received written complaints from Jalal-ud-din of Kokagund Sehpora and Wahid Ahmad, a Bakerwal from Chadrakote, Hayan Kangan, stating that during the intervening nights of September 3–4 and 5–6, unknown persons had stolen 37 sheep from their cowsheds.
Accordingly, FIR Nos. 31 and 63 of 2025 were registered at PS Kheerbawani and PS Kangan under relevant sections of law, and investigations were initiated.
Under the directions of SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, special police teams were constituted under the supervision of Dy.SP Headquarters Ganderbal and SDPO Kangan, led by SHO PS Kheerbawani Gulzar Ahmad and SHO PS Kangan Lateef Ahmad.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Through technical inputs and sustained investigation, the police apprehended Shabir Ahmad Bhat of Arigoripora, Kangan. On interrogation, he disclosed the involvement of Momin Bashir Ganie, Basit Bashir, and Hilal of Pehlipora Safapora, leading to the recovery of six sheep. Momin Bashir was also arrested, and one vehicle bearing registration number JK04D-0256 was seized.
Separately, PS Kangan police apprehended Gh Nabi Dar of Ruhama, Pulwama, and recovered 15 stolen sheep from his possession.
In total, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the two cases, and the stolen livestock has been recovered. Further arrests and recoveries are expected.
The action by Ganderbal Police has been widely appreciated by local residents. Authorities have requested public cooperation in providing timely information to help prevent crimes and ensure a safe and secure environment in the district.(KNS).
