Srinagar, May 15 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Sunday asserted that the incumbent governor administration has abjectly failed to deliver on the daunting issues that the state is facing, saying that the skyrocketing prices of basic commodities has put extra burden on the shoulders of people.

While expressing dismay over the paucity of various essential amenities and the skyrocketing prices of house hold commodities, party’s north zone president Muhammad Akbar lone, central zone president Ali Muhammad Dar and south zone president Dr. Bashir Veeri in a joint statement said “People have been left to fend for themselves. There is no accountability on ground. The incumbent governor administration has miserably failed to curb black marketing and other price irregularities in the market. People are also aggravated due to the inadequate supply of electricity and water supply. The scarcity of essential including mutton and other Ramazaan specific items have dampened the festivities of Ramazaan,” they said.

Party’s Zonal presidents while censuring the administration for its ineptitude said, “Unfortunately the administration has left the people to fend for themselves. It was expected of the state administration to rise up to the demands of the people by ensuring them all basic and effective amenities. But the administration seems to have no compassion for people who continue to hanker for basic and effective amenities,” they said adding, “The implementation of NFSA has adversely affected lakhs of APL and BPL consumers in the state. The ambiguous categorization of consumer enrollment undertaken by the former BJP-PDP government has made it difficult for the people to run their households. During the holy month of Ramazaan, there is an exponential increase in the demand of basic necessities especially Sugar. It was expected of the incumbent governor administration to rise up to the occasion and increase quota of ration especially Sugar during the month of Ramazaan, but to our dismay nothing was done in that direction as well.”

They further added, “The ineptitude that has beset the administration is a gift of former BJP-PDP government. People are ambiguous as to where they should turn to for help. People have come to understand the slyness of PDP and the proxies of BJP in the state. The former BJP-PDP government has punched the stomachs of people and has been anti poor throughout its stint in power.”

While expressing dismay over the inefficiency of the administration in ensuring smooth movement of traffic on Srinagar –Jammu highway they said, “Even a sprinkle of rain detaches the valley with the rest of the country. The GOI and the incumbent administration with all their men and machinery have miserably failed to upkeep the small stretch of road connecting Jammu to Srinagar. It seems that the government has given up before the vagaries of weather. At a time when world has embarked on the mission of easier intercontinental connectivity, our people in this part of the world still hanker of basic edibles during intermittent highway blockages.”

Zonal presidents said that there was no headway on other road projects connecting Jammu to Srinagar since 2014. “The need of the hour was to upgrade Mughal road so that it could act as parallel link to Kashmir, but to our dismay nothing was done in this direction also. The incumbent governor administration and the former BJP-PDP government miserably failed to develop Mughal road as a viable alternative. The idea of having a tunnel on Mughal road was also brushed under the carpet,” they said.

“Due to frequent suspension of traffic on Jammu –Srinagar highway, vehicles had taken the route of Mughal road to reach Kashmir but there also the government has failed to ensure a steady movement of traffic. Government has established only one checking point on Mughal road, which obviously is not enough to deal with the scope of work. There also one sees a beeline of trucks and other light vehicles waiting for their turn to cross the check point,” they added.

They further added that the incumbent governor administration was slumbering and had shut its eyes and ears to the mounting woes of people in the wake of intermittent highway closures. “We take this opportunity and urge both GOI and the incumbent state administration to ensure steady vehicular movement on the sole highway connecting Srinagar to Jammu. It is expected of the government to upkeep the highways, and initiate time bound work on other routes connecting Kashmir to other parts of the country. The incumbent administration must established sufficient checking points on Mughal road in order to avoid unnecessary stranding of vehicles,” they said. (KNS)
