Manchester, July 24 (KNS): Team India suffered a major blow as wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was on Thursday ruled out of the ongoing Test series against England after fracturing his right toe.
Pant sustained the injury on the opening day of the fourth Test while attempting a reverse sweep off England pacer Chris Woakes. He retired hurt on 37 and was later taken for scans.
“He is ruled out for the next six weeks. A cover will be called in and it is likely to be Ishan Kishan,” a BCCI source said.
Pant had visible bleeding from his right foot, and the area had significant swelling, making it impossible for him to continue in the match.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Ishan Kishan, who has been playing County cricket for Nottinghamshire and was part of the India A squad recently, is the front-runner to replace Pant. However, he did not feature in any of the warm-up matches against the England Lions.
The team management may also consider KL Rahul for wicketkeeping duties, although he hasn’t kept wickets since the South Africa tour in the 2023–24 season. (KNS)
