Srinagar, Sep13 (KNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Ladakh later this month to inaugurate key infrastructure projects and interact directly with the local population, official sources said.

According to sources, preparations for the proposed visit are underway, though the final schedule and date are yet to be announced.

During the visit, the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate major projects aimed at improving all-weather connectivity, telecommunications and civic amenities in the Union Territory, particularly in remote border areas.

Officials said strengthening road networks and communication infrastructure in areas close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) remains a priority, with focus on ensuring last-mile connectivity to remote settlements.

The proposed visit may also include a tour of Chumur, a remote settlement near the LAC, where the government is developing Ladakh’s first model border village under the Vibrant Villages Programme.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The visit assumes significance amid ongoing discussions between the Centre and representatives of Ladakh over a new political, administrative and constitutional framework for the Union Territory.

Talks on the proposed arrangements, including the powers and constitutional provisions of the framework, are still underway.

The Prime Minister’s visit comes at a time when the Centre has undertaken several confidence-building and development initiatives in Ladakh, sources said.

If the visit goes ahead as planned, infrastructure inaugurations, border connectivity, local governance and Ladakh’s political and constitutional future are expected to be among the key issues during the Prime Minister’s engagement with the region.
