PDP condoles Prof Khairat’s demise, terms him great son of soil

Srinagar, Jul 09 (KNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Prof. Dr. Khairat Mohammed Ibn-e-Rasa who breathed his last in Lahore last week.

Senior PDP leader and Former Minister Naeem Akhtar while condoling the sad demise of Prof Khairat termed him the great son of soil who was the first Vice-Chancellor of Multan University Pakistan, Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Lahore besides being a great scientist, administrator and academician.

Expressing grief over his demise, Akhtar said it is deeply painful to see that another outstanding son of the soil breathed his last in exile. Post 1947, Prof Khairat migrated to Pakistan and settled there.

Akhtar in a statement issued to KNS has expressed solidarity with Prof Khairat’s family and has prayed to Allah grant the deceased highest place in Jannah.

Son of a legendary Urdu and Kashmiri poet Rasa Javedani, Prof Khairat was born at Bhaderwah on October 5, 1926. He did his schooling from Government Higher Secondary School boys Bhaderwah and B Sc from GGM Science College Jammu.

Prof Khairat has visited Jammu and Kashmir thrice, first time in 1979 when his father Rasa Javedani died and later in 1982 when he attended an international conference of Vice Chancellors at Calcutta. His last visit to his birthplace was in July 2015. (KNS)
