Srinagar, Sep 29 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday drew a parallel between the government’s position on municipal elections and the BJP’s stated position on restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying both would happen “at the appropriate time”.

Participating in the debate on the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act (Amendment) Bill in the Legislative Assembly, Omar said there was no fixed timeline for the elections but asserted that they would be held. “Now they will ask me when the elections will be held. Responding to concerns over the Bill, the Chief Minister said its purpose was not to create confusion but to remove it. Referring to Section 10(1)(c), he said the provision clearly stated that a new municipal body would be formed. “Our intention to hold municipal elections is exactly the same as the BJP’s intention to restore statehood. That will happen at the appropriate time,” Omar said.(KNS)
