Srinagar, 17 Sept: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Adv Showkat Mir Wednesday stated that the greatest achievement of the Omar Abdullah-led government is its success in reviving a long-lost sense of accountability within the administration and empowering citizens to once again ask the hard questions.

In a statement issued, Speaking at a review meeting with party functionaries at the Nawa-e-Subha headquarters in Srinagar, Mir highlighted the success of the ongoing outreach programme and addressed several pressing public issues particularly the hardships faced by fruit growers across the region.

In a strong endorsement of Omar Abdullah’s government, Mir stated, “The restoration of public accountability and the revival of democratic engagement between the people and the government under Omar Abdullah’s leadership remains the administration’s most enduring legacy. It wasn’t just about delivering governance, it was about rekindling the public’s confidence to question authority, demand transparency, and actively participate in democratic processes. That spirit had long been diminished in our region for a decade now,”

He commended the Omar Abdullah-led government for its effective and timely response to natural calamities, particularly highlighting its swift relief and rehabilitation measures.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“There was widespread appreciation for the hands-on approach adopted by Omar Abdullah and his cabinet colleagues in reaching out to affected communities be it in Ramban, Kishtwar, Jammu, or Udhampur. It was the elected government that led from the front and was the first to release compensation to the victims,” Mir noted.

On the issue of prolonged highway closures, Mir dismissed criticism directed at the former elected government as unfounded and politically driven. “Holding an elected government accountable for an issue that squarely falls under Union jurisdiction is not just misleading, it borders on theatrics. When facts no longer serve a narrative, drama often takes over. Blaming the UT government for the highway mess is like barking up the wrong tree loudly, and without a sense of direction,” he remarked.

The meeting also included detailed discussions on organisational matters and strategies aimed at deepening public engagement and strengthening the party’s grassroots outreach in the coming months.(KNS)
