Srinagar, Dec 11(KNS): J&K Legislative Assembly member Tanvir Sadiq on Thursday expressed deep concern over reports of nitrofuran and nitroimidazole residues being detected in eggs, calling the presence of these banned drugs in food-producing animals a serious public health risk.
Nitrofuran and nitroimidazole are strictly prohibited in food-producing animals due to their carcinogenic and toxic effects.
Sadiq highlighted that eggs are widely consumed by children, senior citizens, and patients, and are often prescribed by doctors as a primary source of protein, making this a potential health hazard.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Sadiq called for residue testing across markets, tracing the source of contaminated eggs, and taking strict action against violators.
“Safety of our people cannot be compromised. This issue must be treated with utmost urgency,” he said, appealing for swift action.(KNS).
