Reaffirms party’s historic commitment to safeguarding rights of those engaged Kashmir’s traditional,cultural industries
Srinagar, 15 Sept: In a move aimed at reinforcing the party’s grassroots connect with the working class and business community, the Provincial President Kashmir, Showkat Ahmad Mir, chaired a felicitation ceremony today at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, to honour the newly appointed Convenor of the party's Trade Union Cell for Kashmir Province, Ghulam Muhammad Hamdard.
In a statement issued, event was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani (Sogami), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, Wani congratulated Hamdard on his new responsibility and expressed hope that he would serve as an effective voice for Kashmir’s traders, artisans, labourers, and small business owners.
He stressed the importance of the Trade Union Cell in today’s socio-economic landscape, describing it as a crucial bridge between the working class, the government, and the party leadership. “Our artisans, daily wage workers, and traders form the backbone of Kashmir’s economy. Their issues deserve urgent attention—whether it’s access to credit, social security, or fair market opportunities,” he said adding that the newly restructured Trade Union Cell will play a proactive role in raising concerns related to labour rights, unorganized sector challenges, market access for handicraft workers, and awareness of government welfare schemes.
Nasir reaffirmed the party’s historic commitment to safeguarding the rights of those engaged in small and medium enterprises, especially those involved in Kashmir’s traditional and cultural industries like carpet weaving, embroidery, papier-mâché, and wood carving.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Also present on the occasion were prominent party leaders including MLA Pampore Hasnain Masoodi; MLA Chadoora Ali Muhammad Dar; Er. Sabiya Qadri, Provincial President of the Women’s Wing; Sardar JS Azad, Minority Wing Convenor;District President Budgam GN Bhat; senior functionaries GN Tailbali and Dr. Syed; along with Mushtaq Mir, Provincial President of the Youth National Conference (YNC).
In his remarks, Ghulam Muhammad Hamdard expressed deep gratitude for the trust placed in him by the party leadership. He pledged to work tirelessly to uplift the voices of workers and traders across the region.
“This is not just a position, it’s a responsibility to represent and protect the interests of thousands of hardworking people who sustain our local economy,” he said. The felicitation ceremony concluded with a collective reaffirmation of the party’s commitment to social justice, inclusive growth, and economic empowerment of the working class.
Leaders called for unified efforts to address the challenges faced by those in the unorganised and informal sectors and to push for stronger support mechanisms at both state and central levels.(KNS)
