NIA takes over probe involving DSP in ferrying militants

 New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation in the case involving DySP of J&K Police Davinder Singh who was caught in Anantnag district while ferrying two militants to Jammu, officials said.

 
Keeping in view the sensitivity of the case, Union Home Ministry had asked the NIA to initiate the process of probing the case.
 
Singh, a known counter-insurgency face of J&K Police was arrested on January 11 along with Naveed Babu, Hizbul Mujahideen commander, a newly recruited Militant Atif and an advocate Irfan Mir.
 
Five grenades were seized from the vehicle during the naka laid by J&K police at Qaziqund on Srinagar-Jammu highway and raids at Dysp’s house later led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, two pistols and two grenades, besides some cash.
 
Earlier also Singh has been in news for wrong reasons. The parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru in his letter to his lawyer had said how "DSP Davinder Singh", the then deputy superintendent of police of Special Operations Group, had asked him to "take Mohammad", a co-accused in the Parliament attack case, "to Delhi, rent a flat for his stay and purchase a car for him."
 
Notably, the Singh was posted with the .anti-hijacking unit at Srinagar Airport and was among the officials who received the 16-member delegation of foreign ambassadors which visited Kashmir on Thursday. (KNS)
