Srinagar, 08 Sept: (KNS) The J&K National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah, Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with senior party leaders, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, office-bearers and party workers offered floral tributes and Fateha at Mazar-e-Quaid at Naseem Bagh today. They also offered floral tributes and Fateha at the grave of Madar-e-Meharban Begum Akbar Jehan. Earlier, in the early hours of the morning, a Quran Khwani was held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Reading Room, Naseem Bagh, as per the longstanding tradition.

On the occasion, senior party leaders paid rich tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and said that his death anniversary reminds people of his great revolutionary role, which inspired the oppressed, subjugated and deprived people of Jammu and Kashmir to break the chains of bondage.

They said, "Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah dedicated his entire life to the principles of public dignity, political autonomy, social justice and economic equality. The mass movement led by him challenged the centuries-old feudal system and instilled in the common people the consciousness that the people are the true source of power."

They said that the vision of Sher-e-Kashmir is not merely a chapter of history but a living ideology that continues to resonate in every heart that raises its voice for rights, identity and dignity.
They described the leadership of Sher-e-Kashmir as farsighted and imbued with wisdom to confront the challenges of the future. They said that the massive public grief witnessed 44 years ago, on September 8, when millions of men, women, young and old participated in his funeral procession amid tears and profound anguish, bears testimony to the fact that, except for Kashmir, perhaps no other people in the world had been blessed with the guidance of such a compassionate and devoted leader.

Among those who paid homage at Mazar-e-Quaid were Party General Secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary and MP Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Assembly Speaker Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Cabinet Ministers Sakina Itoo, Javed Ahmad Dar and Javed Ahmad Rana, senior leader Sharief-ud-Din Shariq, Provincial President Adv Showkat Mir, MLAs Haji Mubarak Gul, Ali Mohammad Dar, Abdul Majeed Larmi, Dr Bashir Veeri, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Saif-ud-Din Bhat, Ahsan Pardesi, Salman Ali Sagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Irshad Rasool Kar, Javed Mirchal, Peerzada Faroz Ahmad, Riyaz Bedar, Dr Shafi Ahmad Wani and Sajad Shaheen, spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, Provincial Secretary Syed Tauqeer, senior party leaders Aga Syed Mahmood, Abdul Gani Malik, Mohammad Khalil Band, Peer Afaq Ahmad, Ghulam Nabi Bhat, Safdar Ali Khan, Sheikh Ghayas-ud-Din and Sheikh Mohammad Rafi, Women's Wing President Er Sabiya Qadri, YNC Provincial President Mir Mushtaq among others.

Meanwhile, in Jammu, a function was held at the party office to commemorate the death anniversary of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, where the departed leader was paid rich tributes. Central and provincial leaders, while paying homage to Sheikh Sahib, said that he was a staunch advocate of communal harmony and the great legacy of brotherhood and Hindu-Muslim-Sikh unity across all three regions.

Tribute functions were also held across the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal regions, as well as in Kargil. Party office-bearers and workers participated in these programmes and paid glowing tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, describing his life and legacy as a guiding light for overcoming the challenges of the future.(KNS)
