Srinagar, 03 Sept (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar Thursday presided over a meeting finalising preparations for the observance of 43rd death anniversary of party founder Sher e Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah at the party headquarters, Nawai Subah.

In a atatement issued, Sagar said that the 43rd death anniversary of the benefactor of Jammu & Kashmir, pioneer of the Kashmir freedom movement and founder of the Muslim Auqaf Trust, and the first Prime Minister of the people’s government, late Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, will be observed with deep reverence and respect across all three regions on September 8. He said that, as per tradition, Quran Khwani and Fateh Khwani will begin at dawn at the mausoleum of the late leader in Naseem Bagh, Hazratbal. Fateh Khwani will be offered at his grave, floral tributes will be paid and a floral chadar will be laid at the mausoleum.

The National Conference leadership, Members of Parliament, ministers, legislators, senior leaders, office-bearers and workers will participate in the collective Fateh Khwani in the morning. Programmes will also be organised at district and tehsil levels across Jammu and Ladakh, where party leaders will pay tribute to the late leader and highlight his historic personality and services.

A programme will also be held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan in Jammu, where senior leaders of the Jammu province will shed light on Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s historic political and social contributions.

Meanwhile, the meeting strongly condemned the excessive use of force during the National Conference protest rally at Rajbagh the previous day, including injuries caused to leaders and office-bearers, arrests and alleged misbehaviour by the police. A resolution condemning the incident was also passed in the meeting.(KNS)
