NC condemns use of force against photojournalists, civilian

Srinagar, Jan 22 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday condemned the use of pellet guns against photojournalists covering protests in Shopian and alleged thrashing of a young boy at Habba Kadal, Srinagar.
In a statement issued to KNS, party spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar impressed upon the governor administration to initiate inquiry into the whole incident and bring the culprits to justice. “It’s really sad how forces have resorted to use of pellet guns against journalists who were there to perform their duty of reporting. The incident has once again brought to fore how vulnerable the journalists particularly photo journalists are in Kashmir,” he said.
Meanwhile party’s Women’s wing President Shameema Firdous and former MLA of Habbakadal constituency while condemning the alleged action of forces on boy at Habba Kadal said, “I am told that the child is severely injured and has been put on a ventilator. This incident reveals how hollow and superficial the claims of governor administration are about respecting human life and dignity.”
Shameema who has been representing the Habakadal constituency for consecutive terms urged the administration to ensure free and effective medical treatment to the injured boy. “I urge the administration to initiate a time bound inquiry into the incident,” she said.
Shameema made a phone call to the hospital administration of GMC, Srinagar and inquired about the injured boy. “I am told that the injured boy, Muhammad younis has been put on ventilator and has received many serious injuries,” she said adding, “I have impressed upon the hospital administration to ensure the victim best of medical treatment.” (KNS)
