NC, PDP support BJP’s proxy candidate in Kargil: G A Mir

Srinagar, Apr 30 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president and its candidate for Anantnag parliamentary constituency G A Mir on Tuesday said that in Kargil the NC and PDP are supporting an independent candidate, Sajjad Hussain, who is being backed by the BJP.

“Both parties (PDP and NC) are supporting an independent candidate, who is a proxy of the BJP in Kargil. People in Pulwama and Shopian districts (which are going to polls on May 6) should know that it (PDP) has not left BJP but are still linked to it. If PDP can ally with BJP during elections who knows they will again form an alliance post elections for government formation,” Mir told Kashmir News Service (KNS).

Mir said apart from Congress, people should not trust any political party for not forming alliance with the BJP.

“It is surprising that in Kargil, NC and PDP, and BJP trio are jointly supporting an independent candidate while as in Kashmir the PDP and NC are propagating anti-BJP rhetoric,” said another Congress leader.

Sajjad Hussain, a former a journalist, has been active in social and political circles of Kargil since 2009 soon after completing his education. He is contesting as an independent candidate for the Ladakh Parliament Seat. Hussain has got a public support of both PDP and NC while as Mir claims that he is a proxy of the BJP.

“We (NC, Congress, and PDP) had reached to a consensus to support Karbalai as an independent candidate from Kargil. Obviously that arrangement didn’t suit the BJP, which then supported an independent candidate Sajad Hussain. Later on both NC and PDP also backed the same independent candidate (Hussain),” the Congress leader said.

Congress has nominated Rigzin Splabar, who was two-time chief executive councillor (CEC) of Ladakh Autonomus Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh. BJP has nominated the current CEC of LAHDC, Leh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, popularly known as JTN. Besides, Asgar Ali Karbalai, a Congress-backed independent candidate is contesting from Kargil. The polling will be held in the fifth phase on May 6. (KNS)
