Srinagar, Sept 8 (KNS) : Awami National Conference (ANC) Senior Vice President, Muzaffar Shah, has strongly condemned the slapping of the Public Safety Act (PSA) on Mehraj Malik, MLA, terming the action as unjust, undemocratic and politically motivated.
In a statement issued, Shah said that such measures expose the Government’s insecurity and its failure to allow genuine political voices to operate freely. “Slapping PSA on an elected representative is nothing but an attempt to silence the voice of the people he represents. It reflects the widening gap between the rulers and the aspirations of the masses,” Shah stated.
He further added that these undemocratic acts only deepen alienation and distrust among the people of Jammu & Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Instead of engaging with elected representatives, the Government is choosing to criminalize political activity, which is an extremely dangerous precedent,” he cautioned.
Calling for immediate revocation of the PSA, Shah urged all democratic forces to rise above political differences and oppose such draconian actions. “If elected representatives are not safe from arbitrary detentions, then what message is being conveyed to the people of Jammu & Kashmir?” he asked.
The ANC Senior Vice President reiterated his party’s commitment to safeguarding the democratic and constitutional rights of the people and demanded Mehraj Malik’s unconditional release at the earliest.(KNS)
