Srinagar, Apr 27 (KNS): Muneer Ul Islam may not be joining as the Director Information and Public Relations General as legislators from Pulwama want him as deputy commissioner of the district.
Islam was transferred as Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and posted as director J&K Information department in the first cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on April 16.
He was scheduled to assume charge as Director Information and Public Relations after incumbent director Zaffar Ahmad Bhat superannuates on May 1.
However, sources in the government told KNS that Islam may not be joining to the post as three PDP MLAs from Pulwama have suggested to the chief minister that he be posted as DC Pulwama.
The MLAs, KNS learnt, have recommended his name to the CM after his outstanding performance as DC Anantnag.
Anantnag district was awarded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week as the best district in Jammu and Kashmir for constructing separate toilets for boys and girls in 1,500 schools under the Swachh Vidyalaya category for Northeast and Hilly States.
Though the award was received by incumbent Anantnag Deputy Commissioner Sayed Abid Rasheed Shah, but the scheme was implemented by his predecessor.
Shah, who was DC Kulgam, was transferred as to Anantnag in the same cabinet meeting when Islam was posted as Director Information and Public Relations. (KNS)
