Modi’s 11 Years Usher in New Era of Development in Punjab: Tarun Chugh

Jalandhar/Chandigarh, June 11, (KNS): BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Wednesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 11 years in office, calling it a period marked by public service, economic growth, and national transformation. Speaking at a press conference in Jalandhar as part of the nationwide ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi’ campaign, Chugh highlighted key achievements under the Modi government, both nationally and in Punjab.

“In 2014, India was the world’s 11th largest economy with a GDP of $1.86 trillion. Today, we are the fourth largest and fastest-growing economy at $4.187 trillion,” Chugh stated. He credited Modi’s leadership for lifting over 25 crore people out of poverty and adopting the Direct Benefit Transfer system, which has transferred ?44 lakh crore directly to beneficiaries, cutting out middlemen.

Chugh highlighted the success of flagship schemes:

Over 52.5 crore loans issued under PM Mudra Yojana, with 68% going to women.

UPI transactions exceeding ?25.14 lakh crore (as of May 2025).

3.7 crore rural and 1.18 crore urban houses built under PMAY, with another 3 crore announced.

15 crore homes connected with tap water under Jal Jeevan Mission.

12 crore toilets constructed, achieving 100% sanitation coverage.

He also noted that Ayushman Bharat has provided free hospital care to over 9.3 crore people, including all citizens above 70, while telemedicine services under e-Sanjeevani have reached 35 crore patients. Jan Aushadhi Kendras (16,251 in total) have improved access to affordable medicines.

Chugh praised India’s strong stance on national security, citing operations like Sindoor, Uri, and Balakot. Defence exports rose sharply from ?Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel686 crore in 2014 to ?23,622 crore in 2024–25. The BrahMos missile, he said, symbolizes India's defence strength.

On culture and heritage, Chugh credited the Modi government for restoring national pride through projects such as the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the Char Dham Highway, and International Yoga Day celebrations. He highlighted the abrogation of Article 370 and India’s emergence as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem.

Discussing Punjab, Chugh said Modi’s government has honored its legacy through the redevelopment of the Jallianwala Bagh Memorial, reopening 300 cases related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, and celebrating the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Veer Bal Diwas was also introduced to honor the Sahibzade's sacrifices.

In Punjab’s agricultural sector, over 23 lakh farmers receive ?6,000 annually through PM-Kisan, and MSP has increased by 50–60% since 2014. The Kartarpur Corridor was opened, and GST was removed from Langar.

The ?40,000 crore Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway will improve connectivity to key religious sites and boost regional economic growth. Housing schemes have delivered over 1.37 lakh homes in Punjab, and more than 13.5 lakh LPG connections have been provided under Ujjwala Yojana.

Institutions like AIIMS Bathinda, PGI Ferozepur, IIT Mohali, and IIM Amritsar have strengthened healthcare and education in the state. Punjab has also seen major investment under the Smart City Mission and Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Chugh concluded, “In the past 11 years, the Modi Government has worked tirelessly with the core values of service, good governance, and welfare of the poor — laying the foundation for a developed India.” (KNS)
