Mehbooba Mufti Appeals to NC-Led Govt to Roll Back Order on FAT Schools Takeover

Srinagar, Aug 23 (KNS) : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today appealed to the National Conference (NC)-led government in Jammu and Kashmir to immediately roll back its recent order directing the takeover of 215 schools managed by the Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT), an affiliate of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).

In a Press Conference as Per KNS , Mufti described the government’s decision as “another form of atrocity” aimed at sabotaging the educational future of Kashmiri youth. Drawing parallels to previous actions against the organization, she emphasized that targeting education after land, resources, and jobs would only harm the region’s children.

“The move to take over FAT-affiliated schools echoes past efforts to undermine institutions serving thousands of students. This will disrupt the lives of over 51,000 enrolled children and jeopardize their academic progress. I urge the NC government to revoke this order and allow the trust to resume management without interference,” Mufti stated.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The School Education Department’s order, issued recently, mandates that District Magistrates assume control of the schools’ management committees, with principals from nearby government higher secondary schools overseeing operations on an interim basis for three months. This follows the expiration of the existing committees and aims to facilitate the formation of new ones after intelligence verifications.

Criticising the move Mufti said such decisions only repeat the mistakes of the past and erode the educational foundations of thousands of children. She maintained that the order was inconsistent, short-sighted, and detrimental to the academic prospects of Kashmiri students.

Reiterating her confidence in the resilience of Kashmiris, Mehbooba Mufti added, “I am sure Kashmiris will overcome this and not let their children suffer.” The PDP leader called for a focus on educational stability amid ongoing challenges in the region.(KNS)
