Srinagar, Sept 7 (KNS): An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Sunday arrived in Kashmir to assess the destruction caused by recent floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.

Officials told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the delegation will hold discussions with the local administration and carry out on-ground inspections in several affected districts. The team is tasked with evaluating the extent of losses, reviewing relief and rescue efforts, and preparing a detailed report for the Centre, they said.

The visit follows weeks of heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir that led to widespread damage to homes, farmland, and infrastructure.

Earlier this month, the MHA had set up IMCTs for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab, all of which witnessed severe weather events.

Each team is headed by a Joint Secretary-level officer from the MHA or the National Disaster Management Authority, with experts from multiple ministries including agriculture, rural development, power, road transport, Jal Shakti, and expenditure.

Officials said that after visiting the Valley, the team will submit its findings to the central government.

The assessment will serve as the basis for additional financial aid and long-term recovery measures.(KNS).
