Srinagar, Jul 11 (KNS): An 18-year-old ace cricketer from north Kashmir’s Pattan area of Baramulla district died after being hit by a ball during a cricket match of a tournament being organized by the Government’s Youth Services and Sports Department in Anantnag district.

According to KNS Correspondent, Jahangir Ahmad War of Goshbugh Pattan was hit by a cricket ball during a cricket match in Nanil playground in Anantnag. The match between Baramulla and Budgam cricket team was the contest of the tourney.

The left-handed batsman wearing helmet tried to play a pull shot but the ball was hit near his neck due to which he died.

According to the reports, Jehangir was studying in Class 11th at Government Higher Secondary School Goshbugh Pattan, Baramulla.

Director General Sports, Saleem-ur-Rehman told Kashmir that the whole department is in mourning at present. “We are in utter shock and grief as this was really a rare case. We had made every arrangement after he was hit by a ball. We have asked Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Anantnag Dr Majid Mirab to keep CT scan machine and other things available for the treatment of the youth but he was declared dead at Mattan.”

He further stated that the cricketer had taken precautions as he was wearing the helmet but the ball hit him at delicate place due to which he succumbed to his injury. (KNS)
