Jammu, September 22 (KNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday inaugurated a sports complex, a 10-metre shooting range and high-mast lights at the University of Jammu, giving a boost to sports infrastructure at the varsity.

The facilities are aimed at providing students and sportspersons with improved training infrastructure and creating more opportunities for hosting inter-university and national-level sporting events.

The University of Jammu has been expanding its sports infrastructure, including facilities for cricket, athletics, basketball, volleyball, hockey, football, fencing, boxing, wrestling and other disciplines.

The cricket stadium at the university has been equipped with high-mast lights to facilitate day-night matches and extend training hours. The university cricket ground is recognised as a major sporting venue and has hosted national-level competitions.

Addressing the gathering, Sinha underlined the importance of sports in the holistic development of students and called for sustained efforts to provide modern facilities and training opportunities to young athletes.

He said educational institutions have an important role in nurturing sporting talent and creating an environment where students can pursue both academics and sports.

University of Jammu Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai and senior university officials, faculty members, coaches and sportspersons were present on the occasion.

The university authorities said the new facilities would help promote sporting activities on the campus and support the participation of students in competitions at various levels.

The initiatives are part of the university's broader efforts to strengthen its sports infrastructure and provide modern facilities to students and athletes. (KNS)
