Killings, arrests, restrictions cannot resolve Kashmir tangle: JKDFP

Terms heavy militarization as main reason behind killing of five innocent youths

Srinagar, Feb 02 (KNS): Terming the heavy militarization as the main reason behind the killing of five innocent youths including two minors at the hands of Indian forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district during last one week, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) has said that stopping people from performing their religious obligations by imposing restrictions has become a norm in the disputed region.
In a statement issued to KNS, DFP Secretary General, Moulana Mohammad Abdullah Tari said that first a 17 year old minor, Shakir Ahmad was murdered by Indian forces in Chaigund village of Shopian where two brave hearts, Firdous Ahmad and Sameer Ahmad were martyred by Indian forces during a gunfight. The people of nearby Ganowpora village were still in mourning and the Indian army fired upon the mourners killing three youths including Javed Ahmad, Suhail Lone and Rayees Ahmad. Two young women were also fired and injured who are battling for their lives. Another minor, 10 years old Musharraf Fayaz, who had sustained injuries at Chaigund encounter site succumbed to his injuries taking the death toll of civilians to five.
The DFP Secretary General, Moulana Tari said that when people decided to raise their voice against this genocide, the administration imposed strict restrictions only to vindicate that Kashmir has practically become a military state where anybody can be killed or arrested at the will of the men in uniform and nobody is allowed to raise his voice in a democratic way. It has also proved that the men in uniform are the real rulers of the disputed territory.
This attitude is the result of the rigid and illogic policy of New Delhi towards the Kashmir dispute. The result of such rigidity is nothing but bloodshed. Since Kashmir dispute is political in nature, so it needs political measures to resolve this dispute as per the wishes of the people. Neither killings nor arrests can produce positive results nor can such atrocities change the historical facts about Kashmir. If the dream of peace in the south Asian region is to be fulfilled India must shun the path of inflexibility and come forward with political measures. This has been the basis of DFP incarcerated chief Shabir Shah’s politics as well, Moulana Tari said. (KNS)
