Srinagar, Sep 19 (KNS): Kashmiri feature film The Sledge, written and directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Raja Shabir Mohd Khan, has been selected for the International Competition section of the 31st SCHLiNGEL International Film Festival for Children and Young Audiences in Germany.

The film is scheduled to have its world premiere at the festival, which will be held in Chemnitz from October 2 to 10.

A 75-minute Kashmiri-language children’s feature, The Sledge follows three children who accidentally break their father’s sledge and, fearing punishment, decide to earn money to repair it by selling kahwa to tourists in Gulmarg.

Their plan takes an unexpected turn when they find a tourist’s bag containing money and chocolates. The discovery puts them in a dilemma over whether to use the money to solve their problem or return it to its owner.

The film explores themes of honesty, temptation, responsibility and making the right choice, according to its makers.

The film stars Haziq Mohammad Khan, Eashel Khan and Raima Khan in the lead roles. Raja Shabir Mohd Khan has produced and directed the film, while Ramayasa Khan is the executive producer.

He said he was particularly happy that the film was reaching an international audience through a festival dedicated to children and young audiences.

The SCHLiNGEL International Film Festival is dedicated to films for children and young audiences and its International Competition features films from different parts of the world.

The selection marks an international festival platform for a Kashmiri-language children’s feature from Kashmir and will also be the festival debut of its young lead cast.

The Sledge will be screened in Kashmiri with English subtitles.
