Kashmir shuts on JRL’s call against arrests, raids, threat to tinker with Art 35A

Srinagar, Feb 27 (KNS): A complete shutdown was on Wednesday observed across the Valley to protest against the mass arrests, NIA raids on the houses of leadership and continued threats to tinker with state subject law under the pretext of Article 35A.
The shutdown call was given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Tuesday.
Following the call given by JRL, all the shops, business establishments and other establishments remained closed while as the traffic was also off the roads.
Eyewitnesses said that police and paramilitary troopers were deployed in strength in City areas to thwart protests if any today.
However, the situation remained peaceful as per police officials, adding that minor clashes erupted between youth and forces today following which mild force was used to disperse the agitating youth.
Pertinently, NIA conducted raids on houses of several pro-freedom leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and others.
Moreover, the mobile internet speed was reduced to 2g on Tuesday and today 4g and 3g mobile internet services were not restored.
The train services from Baramulla-Banihal remained suspended as security reason. (KNS)
