Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNS): Highlighting the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in the uplift of the society in different arenas, Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Imran Raza Ansari has said the police department, has been working on different fronts for the development of youth in the State. He said activities carried out by JKP have helped imbibe sports spirit in the youth.
Ansari was addressing the concluding function of 5-day Girls Sports Festival at Police Public School Bemina here today.
He said sports awareness among the girls initiated by JKP would help in women empowerment. “Women have an important role in a civilised society and it is our responsibility to work together for their development, making them self dependent and self confident,” he added.
Stressing upon the sports lovers to avail opportunities provided by the JKP, the Minister said that sports activities are pivotal for maintaining physical health, besides enhancing mental capabilities. He said such activities boost the spirit of sportsmanship among the youth. It also helps the organizers to identify talented sportspersons and provide them the appropriate platform to excel.
Speaking on the occasion, chairperson J&K Police Wives Welfare Association (PAWWA) said the festival was a coordinated initiative by JKP and PAWWA to bring sports awareness among the girls for their empowerment in the society and such events would be organised in future also.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Earlier, in his welcome address Dy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir Range, Ghulam Hassan Bhat, who was the coordinator for the event, said more than 2500 girls from 50 educational institutions and sports clubs participated in the 5-day long sports festival. Different athletics and games including Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Kho-Kho, Judo, Carom, Shot-put, Discuss throw, Javelin throw, Shooting, Race and Archery were played during the festival. JKP has organised various sports events in North, South Kashmir and such festivals would be held in future also to promote sports among the women, he added.
Some exhibition matches were also played on the occasion which was witnessed by a large number of sports lovers.
Later, the Chief Guest distributed medals and rewards among the winner teams, besides mementoes and certificates among the participating teams.
The function was attended by Legislators Noor Mohammad and Anjum Fazili, Director General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar, DG Sports & Youth Services Mir Jhangir ADGP SP Vaid and SM Sahai PAWWA members, IGPs AK Choudhary, SJM Gillani, Abdul Ghani Mir, Muneer Ahmad Khan and MA Ganai, besides DIG Syed Ahfadul Mujtaba, Director Police Telecommunication Hilal Ahmad, SSP Srinagar Amit Kumar and other police Officers.
