PDD resorts to ‘frequent’ power cuts in Handwara

Srinagar, Jan 21 (KNS):  Residents of Poshkar Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday blocked the Kangan-Poshkar road for several hours to protest against the failure of Power Development Department (PDD) in delivering the transformer to the village after it developed a snag.

According to KNS correspondent, the concerned SHO reached the spot and assured the protesters that the damaged transformer will be repaired within days.

Meanwhile the residents of various areas of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday also complained of unscheduled power cuts in the area.

The residents of Audoora, Drungsoo Shahnagri, Kutlari, Lawoosa, Nowgam, Haril Monabal , Batagund, Shatgund Payeen, Tulwari  and dozens other villages are not getting the power as per the schedule.

They said it has become routine for PDD to cut down electricity supply even when there is cloudy sky.

“Electric wire in most of the villages has been installed on the trees which results in power breakdown at most of the times.

A resident of the Audoora told KNS that have appealed the authorities several times to look into the matter so they will not get frequent power cuts “but our pleas are not even heard”.

Another resident of the area told KNS that despite paying their regular traffic bills they are not getting the power supply as per the schedule.

he They aggrieved residents said that as per the new curtailment schedule they will get the 12 hours electricity, but the irony is that they are only receiving the power supply for 1-2 hours daily.

Executive Engineer Power Development Department Handwara told that he has also sent a proposal to higher authorities and hopefully the problem will be redressed soon..
