J&K govt gets Rs 3 crore bill for food, lodging of political detainees

Srinagar, Nov 05 (KNS): The management of Centaur hotel has asked Jammu & Kashmir government to pay more than Rs three crore for food and lodging of political detainees.

Highly placed sources told Kashmir News Service that management of the hotel has asked state government to liquidate the bill of Rs three crore on account of accommodation and food of the detainees. “More than 30 politicians are jailed in the centaur hotel after it was declared as sub-jail by the state government,” they said, adding that Rs 7200 are being charged for each room per day.

According to the sources, nearly 40 rooms of the hotel are being utilised for politicians and forces deployed for guarding the facility.

After scrapping of the Article 370 by Centre on August 5, the government arrested all top and second-rung mainstream politicians.

All of them, except former CMs Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, are lodged inthe hotel from August 6.

Sources also told KNS that security wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police had recently mooted a for shifting the political detainees to a hotel in the City. “The security wing has cited non-utilisation of SKICC as primary reason for shifting of the political detainees,” they said.

According to them, the proposal was submitted to the State Home department. (KNS)
