Srinagar, Sep 28 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday extended the benefit of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to thousands of employees appointed against posts advertised before the introduction of the New Pension Scheme (NPS), allowing them a one-time option to switch from the existing pension system.

The order was issued following a decision of the Council of Ministers and covers employees appointed against posts advertised or notified before December 24, 2009, but who joined government service under the New Pension Scheme.

Under the order, eligible employees can opt for the Old Pension Scheme by submitting their option through the proper channel within three months from the date of issuance of the order.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The government has made it clear that the option, once exercised, will be final. Employees who fail to exercise the option within the stipulated three-month period will continue to remain covered under the New Pension Scheme.

The decision provides relief to employees whose posts were advertised before the notification of the New Pension Scheme but who entered government service later and were consequently covered under the NPS.

The move is expected to benefit thousands of such employees across Jammu and Kashmir, enabling eligible personnel to choose the pension framework applicable under the Old Pension Scheme, subject to the conditions laid down in the government order.(KNS)
