Srinagar, Nov 21 (KNS) : As part of the nationwide initiative “Aapki Poonji, Aapka Adhikar – Your Money, Your Right”, J&K UTLBC today organized Special Facilitation Camps in the districts of Reasi, Rajouri and Anantnag, extending on-ground assistance to public in tracing and reclaiming their long-pending or unclaimed financial assets.
The initiative forms part of the Union Government’s three-month awareness-cum-disbursement campaign launched by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) in coordination with RBI and other financial sector regulators including SEBI, IRDAI, PFRDA and MCA.
The camps focused on facilitating the settlement of unclaimed bank deposits, dormant insurance amounts, inactive mutual fund units, dividend proceeds, unclaimed shares and other financial assets held across different financial institutions and regulators.
Reasi Camp
The district-level mega camp at Reasi was presided over by ADC Reasi Rakesh Kumar in the presence of DGM (RBI) Vibha Gupta, J&K Bank’s AGM Amit Bargotra, DDM NABARD Adarsh Gupta, officers from various insurance companies and branch managers from multiple banks.
In his address, ADC Reasi Rakesh Kumar appreciated the inter-agency cooperation. “Such initiatives bring government institutions, regulators and banks together for a citizen-centric cause that restores people’s confidence in the financial system,” he remarked.
Speaking on the occasion, DGM (RBI) Vibha Gupta highlighted the RBI’s three-pronged “3A Strategy—Awareness, Accessibility and Action”, urging banks to proactively trace depositors and rightful claimants.
While highlighting the fact that Reasi district accounted for 36642 unclaimed accounts amounting to Rs 9.95 crores, she encouraged the banks to actively contact/trace depositors/rightful claimants of these unclaimed deposits for the purpose of return of these funds to these claimants in a time-bound manner.
She also explained RBI’s “Scheme for Facilitating Accelerated Pay-out” with pay-out incentives for banks settling inoperative and unclaimed accounts during the period October 01, 2025 – September 30, 2026.
Participants were trained on the use of RBI’s UDGAM Portal, and banks set up dedicated desks for claims assistance, re-KYC and grievance redressal.
During the camp, 20 beneficiaries/legal heirs were handed over cheques amounting to Rs 35 lakh after completing requisite formalities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Rajouri Camp
In Rajouri, the Lead District Office organized a mega awareness and settlement camp at the Conference Hall of J&K Bank’s Zonal Office. The event saw the participation of RBI officials, NABARD, J&K Grameen Bank, major commercial banks, insurance companies, RSETI and FLCC.
Presiding over the camp, Zonal Head (Rajouri) Rajeev Kumar Digra emphasized the role of financial literacy. “These camps bridge the last-mile gap by bringing claim settlement services directly to the people in an accessible and transparent manner,” he said.
More than 100 participants attended the camp and were informed about the step-by-step claim process for unclaimed financial assets. During the camp, 17 beneficiaries/legal heirs were handed over cheques amounting to Rs 8.10 lakh after completing requisite formalities.
Pertinently, there are 81955 unclaimed accounts in the district amounting to Rs 17.45 crores.
Anantnag Camp
Conducted by Lead Bank Office (Anantnag) at Town Hall, Anantnag, the Special Facilitation Camp was presided over by Zonal Head (Anantnag) Khavar Mehraj Handoo, which saw significant public participation. Senior officials from RBI, District Administration, banks, insurance companies and intermediaries joined the outreach.
Speaking on the occasion, Zonal Head Khavar Mehraj Handoo said, “We are committed to ensure that hard-earned public money doesn’t remain inaccessible due to procedural gaps or lack of awareness.”
An RBI representative offered on-the-spot support for claims related to unclaimed deposits, insurance pay-outs, shares, dividends and mutual funds.
LDM Anantnag, Mohammad Shafi Bhat, thanked all stakeholders and reaffirmed the lead bank’s commitment to strengthening financial inclusion and public awareness.
Meanwhile, the district accounts for 107000 unclaimed accounts amounting to Rs 24.98 crores. The camp successfully settled 4 cases amounting to Rs 8.61 lakh.
Notably, through these district-level camps, J&K UTLBC aims to ensure easy access, timely settlements and enhanced financial awareness, enabling people to reclaim their rightful savings and strengthen trust in the financial ecosystem.(KNS)
