‘3-day sports festival inaugurated at Gindun Park’

Srinagar, Dec 02 (KNS): A range-level sports festival was inaugurated today at Gindun Park in Rajbagh locality here by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Central), Ghulam Hassan Bhat, in presence of senior officers of J&K Police.
The three-day festival will see hundreds of young players, selected through a rigorous process by J&K Police in Srinagar, Ganderbal and Budgam districts, slugging it out in various sports events including Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Judo, etc.
Speaking on the occasion, DIG Bhat said the J&K Police is at the forefront of providing a good platform to talented youths of Jammu and Kashmir so that they can excel at the national and international levels.
The DIG said the state of Jammu and Kashmir has a large untapped pool of talent, including in the sports arena, who need encouragement and proper training to hone their skills.
“By organising these festivals, we are ensuring that our youths get a proper platform and necessary infrastructure to excel and bring laurels not only for their parents and the state but the whole country,” he said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Srinagar, Tahir Saleem Khan, SSP Srinagar, Imtiyaz Ismail Parray and other senior police officers from Budgam, Ganderbal and Srinagar districts also participated in the opening ceremony of the sports festival.
The opening game of football was played between Ganderbal and Budgam districts at the Gindun Park. The park will host all football and other sports events during the three-day festival while cricket matches will be played at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium. (KNS)
