Srinagar, July 3, (KNS): To mark the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, the Department of Cooperatives, Jammu and Kashmir, organized a grand Divisional-Level function at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, under the global theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World.”
The event was attended by a large number of cooperative members, officials, and stakeholders. Mohammad Shafiq Chak (JKAS), Registrar of Cooperative Societies, J&K, was the Chief Guest. He inspected exhibition stalls displayed by various cooperative societies and interacted with their representatives.
In his welcome address, Bashir Ahmad Wani, Additional Registrar, Cooperative Societies Kashmir, emphasized the importance of cooperatives in promoting sustainable development, youth empowerment, and economic growth, especially in sectors like agriculture, dairy, handicrafts, and rural credit.

The program also honored the Best Performing Cooperative Societies and outstanding departmental officers from across Kashmir for their remarkable contributions.
Addressing the audience, Registrar Mohammad Shafiq Chak spoke about the rich legacy of cooperatives in J&K and called for their revival through collective efforts. He stressed that cooperatives are not just business models, but strong social institutions that empower people, especially in rural areas.
The vote of thanks was presented by Khalid Hussain Malik, Joint Registrar, Cooperative Societies Audit, Kashmir. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Deputy Registrars, officials from allied departments, and representatives of cooperative banks and unions.(KNS)
