Srinagar, Sep 12 (KNS): J&K Bank has been honoured with the ‘Best Corporate Social Responsibility Overall Practices’ award at the 13th National CSR Leadership Congress & Awards, recognising its initiatives in sustainable and inclusive community development.

The award was received by the bank’s Zonal Head (Bengaluru) Shadab Mehboob at a function held at Taj MG Road, Bengaluru, on Friday.

The award ceremony was part of a day-long CSR conference that brought together experts and stakeholders to deliberate on emerging trends and issues concerning corporate social responsibility in the country.

Reacting to the recognition, J&K Bank MD and CEO Amitava Chatterjee said the bank’s CSR initiatives were aimed at addressing the needs of underserved communities, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

“For J&K Bank, CSR is not a peripheral obligation but an extension of our institutional purpose. This award validates our approach of taking meaningful, need-based interventions to underserved communities, particularly across J&K and Ladakh, while ensuring that every initiative creates measurable and lasting value,” Chatterjee said.

He said the bank’s CSR programme was evolving into a structured platform for inclusive and sustainable development, with focus areas including healthcare, education, livelihood generation, disability inclusion, environmental sustainability and grassroots sports.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The programme also covers rural development, women empowerment and gender equality, promotion of art and culture, besides support for armed forces veterans and their dependents, he said.

The bank said its CSR initiatives in healthcare include cardiac and breast cancer screening programmes in underserved areas, aimed at improving access to preventive healthcare for vulnerable sections.

Its environmental interventions include solar-powered sanitation facilities, plantation drives and waste-management initiatives, while community-focused programmes include providing affordable meals to attendants of patients at hospitals.

The bank has also undertaken skill development and livelihood initiatives aimed at strengthening economic opportunities at the grassroots level.

“Guided by strong governance and strategic partnerships, we shall continue to expand our reach and deepen our impact in alignment with national development priorities,” Chatterjee said.

The National Awards for Excellence in CSR & Sustainability recognise organisations that have integrated social responsibility and sustainability into their institutional strategies and demonstrated measurable benefits for communities and the environment.(KNS)
