J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau charges former Sarpanch in bribery

Srinagar, Dec 16 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday presented a charge-sheet against Mohammad Muzaffer Rather, former Sarpanch of Manigam, Ganderbal, in a bribery case before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Srinagar.

The case, registered as FIR No. 13/2023 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was based on a written complaint alleging that Rather demanded ?9,000 as bribe to settle a property dispute between the complainant and his sister.

According to the ACB, a trap was laid, and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe money was recovered on the spot, and chemical tests confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein on Rather’s hands.

Following investigation and collection of evidence, the bureau established that the accused had committed an offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

After obtaining the necessary sanction for prosecution from the government, the charge-sheet was filed before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Srinagar, on Tuesday for judicial proceedings.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for March 2, 2026.(KNS)
