Jammu, Dec 18 (KNS): The J&K Sports Council, in collaboration with the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, is set to organise an International Dangal and the prestigious “Rustam-e-Jammu & Kashmir” Title Championship on December 20, 2025, at M.A. Stadium, Jammu.

The first-of-its-kind event in the region aims to promote youth engagement, health and fitness while preserving the rich heritage of indigenous wrestling, popularly known as Dangal, Kushti or Pahalwani. The championship is expected to attract large public participation and significant media attention.

Over 50 national and international wrestlers, including renowned athletes from Russia, Iran and other Asian countries, along with top Indian wrestlers, are expected to compete. Besides showcasing high-level competition, the championship will also support government initiatives such as the “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” and the War Against Drugs by encouraging youth participation in sports and promoting a healthy, disciplined and drug-free lifestyle.

The highlight of the event will be the “Rustam-e-Jammu & Kashmir” Title, to be contested by wrestlers above 85 kg. The winner will receive a cash prize of ?50,000 along with traditional honours of Gurj (Gadda) and Patta, while other position holders will also be awarded cash prizes.

Around 15–20 officials will oversee the bouts, with an expected audience of 10,000 to 15,000 spectators. The event will begin at 11:30 AM and entry will be free for the general public.(KNS)
