Jammu, Aug 28 (KNS): The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for traffic for the third straight day on Thursday after multiple landslides triggered by heavy rains in the Udhampur-Ramban belt, officials said.
Over 500 to 600 vehicles are stranded at different locations along the 270-km road, which is the only all-weather link between Kashmir and the rest of the country.
Traffic police said the highway is shut for movement from Jakheni in Udhampur towards Srinagar due to major damage between Jakheni and Chenani. “No vehicle shall be allowed from Nagrota in Jammu towards Reasi, Chenani, Patnitop, Doda, Ramban, Banihal and Srinagar,” a traffic official said.
Locals of Katra and Udhampur have been asked to keep photo ID cards to facilitate their movement.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Men and machines of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are working to clear the road, which was blocked after heavy rains and flash floods on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, authorities said the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag highway is also closed. On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road, subject to clearance, LMVs followed by HMVs will be allowed from Sonamarg to Kargil between 11:30 am and 5:30 pm.
Similarly, LMVs and private cars are being allowed on Mughal Road between Shopian and Poonch from both sides between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, subject to fair weather and road conditions.(KNS)
