Says a robust E-governance regime need of the hour

Anantnag, May 22 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM) leader and Supreme Court Advocate Syed Iqbal Tahir has underscored the need for a credible, just and effective governance model to make state organs and administration fully accountable to the people and their elected representatives.

He said instant redressal of the people's grievances tops the agenda of JKPM.

Addressing a gathering of youth at Anantnag on Tuesday, Syed Iqbal Tahir said it was highly important to establish people’s trust in the government administrative system to ensure delivery of public services in a transparent manner. He said archaic, feudal and colonial style of governance has no room in the state adding that people of the state are yearning for an effective and efficient governance model.

Dwelling upon the agenda of JKPM, Iqbal Tahir said that there was a need to instill sense of confidence among the youth who have become victim of alienation due to bleak and uncertain future.

“Youth of the state have developed skepticism towards the perceived unjust nature of public life and the governance system,” Syed Tahir remarked while urging the need to bring accountability and transparency in the ruling political system and public services. He said JKPM shall strive to establish an autonomous J&K State Accountability Bureau, which shall have the requisite legal authority to take sou-motto cognizance of instances of misuse of authority and misappropriation of public resources to book the culprits under the law of land.

“JKPM shall also work towards a radical Administrative Reforms Programme that will seek to make the government system more accountable, efficient and transparent, Syed Iqbal said adding that the programme includes strengthening of the J&K’s Right to Information law to ensure transparency in decision-making at state level, and prevent misuse of authority and power.

He urged the need to undertake a comprehensive review of the e-governance programmes implemented in the state so far and take concrete measures in ushering in a robust e-governance regime in the entire Jammu & Kashmir state.

“For improved administrative accountability, institutional efficiency and performance evaluation, JKPM seeks to embrace a management-driven institutional administrative regime in contrast to the existing generalist administrative and management models,” Syed iqbal added. (KNS)
