New Delhi, July 22 : (KNS) The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) held a protest at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, demanding the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest was held under the party’s “Delhi Chalo” programme and was led by JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra. Party members from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the demonstration, holding placards and raising slogans demanding the fulfillment of the Centre’s earlier commitment on statehood.
Tariq Hameed Karra said that the protest was aimed at pressing for what he described as the constitutional right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Karra added that the protest at Jantar Mantar was not an isolated event but part of a larger campaign initiated after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi sent a letter to the Prime Minister demanding immediate restoration of statehood.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe said the party would continue its efforts until the demand was met.
According to KNS, Karra said the Centre had made multiple commitments regarding the restoration of statehood, especially after the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, when it was downgraded from a state to a Union Territory. “We won’t stop until the promise made to the people of J&K is fulfilled,” Karra said.
The Congress has maintained that the withdrawal of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood without the consent of its people was not acceptable and has continued to seek its restoration.(KNS).
