People’s power and sentiments triumph ultimately: Muzaffar Shah

Srinagar, Sep 18 (KNS): The members of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Coordination Committee (JKCSCC) on Tuesday said that the people from all the three regions – Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh – of the State vehemently condemned the petitions filed in the Supreme Court against the Article 35-A.
In a statement to KNS, JKCSCC said the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and colour rose in unison against the petitions filed in the Supreme Court by some people with vested interests; and strongly protested against the conspiracy to erode the special status of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Many political parties also strongly raised voice against the petitions, it said.
The JKCSCC’s appeal of boycotting the Municipal and Panchayat elections yielded results as many political parties decided to boycott the polls till the petition against Article 35-A is dismissed.
As such, the Jammu and Kashmir Awami National Conference (JKANC) not only immediately welcomed the boycott appeal of JKCSCC but the party’s vice chairman Muzaffar Shah after thorough deliberations with legal experts approached the apex court through his counsel to defend the Article 35-A.
As a result of the appeal by JKCSCC members comprising JKANC vice chairman Muzaffar Shah, Advocate Mir Javaid, Deputy Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina, and Advocate Yasmeen Wani, the top leadership of the State stressed on unity. Even the Jammu members of JKCSCC, on emergency basis, filed six petitions in defence of Article 35-A.
Muzaffar Shah, an active member of JKCSCC, in a statement said the people of the State in order to overcome the challenges they face need to show unity and commitment.
“I believe the people’s power and sentiments triumph ultimately,” Muzaffar Shah said.
He said the new Governor needs to analyse the prevailing grim situation in the State in its right perspective and feel the truth that by pushing the groups based upon a few people to elections through deceitful means will further deepen the wedge between people and the administration.
Then to announce poll victory without the people’s participation can’t be termed as elections but the drama of democratic process, Shah said, adding that those political parties who announced boycott of elections also acknowledged the fact that without the people’s participation it is all farce.
However, every political party must be cognizant of the affairs and endeavours of its workers, Muzaffar Shah added. (KNS)
