Demand desiltation of a major Agri Canal in Chadoora

Srinagar Nov 10 (KNS) : A delegation of J&K Climate Action Group-JKCAG & Alamdar Welfare Society Gopalpora met Director Rural Development Department -RDD Kashmir Shabir Hussain Bhat in his office at Srinagar on Monday.

According to a press release issued, The delegation led by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat, Abdul Rashid Baba and Abdul Rashid Wagay raised the issue of a major irrigation canal in Chadoora area which needs desilitation and proper restoration.

“ A major irrigation canal almost 13 kms long known as Kralpur Kul locally needs immediate desilting from Wathoora sheikhpora to Mochwa. Some work has been taken up in Kralpora Dharambugh areas of BK Pora block but there is immediate need for desiltation in Sheikhpora Wathoora, Zolwa and Gopalpora areas as well.

This canal irrigates almost 7000 kanals of agri land but the irrigation department has no funds to restore it and we urged upon Director RDD to support us.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe officer was kind enough to agree to this public demand and assured to start the work soon before the onset of winter” said Dr Raja Muzaffar

It is important to mention that Kralpur Kul and two other small irrigation canals (Masar Kul, Doyan Kul) were recently damaged in floods during September as illegal riverbed mining had weakened the embankments of Doodh Ganga stream.

The JK Climate Action Group-JKCAG & Alamdar Welfare Society -AWS has appealed to DC Budgam and Chief Engineer Irrigation Flood Control Department Kashmir to construct iron or cement concrete flumes around Doodh Ganga stream in Chadoora so that irrigation water is supplied through them from March onwards.

"If the flumes are not constructed in next 2 to 3 months paddy cultivation on almost 5000 kanals of agriculture land will be impacted next year" Dr Raja Muzaffar added.(KNS)
