JK Admin bans multiple Ghee brands after tests confirm adulteratio

Srinagar, Nov 21 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Drugs and Food Control Organisation has blocked the sale, storage and distribution of nine ghee brands after government labs flagged several batches as unsafe or sub standard.

Officials launched the action after a special enforcement drive in September 2025. Inspectors collected samples from multiple locations. Tests at the National Food Laboratory Ghaziabad, FRAC FICCI New Delhi and the Food Testing Laboratory Srinagar confirmed the presence of vegetable fats, foreign fats and non dairy ingredients such as Beta Sitosterol. Analysts also reported deviations in Iodine Value, Saponification Value, RM Value and fatty acid composition.

The banned brands are:
Shri Godhan Desi Ghee
Eassy Dairy Cow Ghee
Dairy Anmol Desi Ghee
MFP 56 Bhog A2 Desi Ghee
Avik Ghee
Vaariya Brand Ghee
Desi Cow Ghee (GOPI)
Krishna Brand Ghee
Daawat Gold

The Commissioner of Food and Drugs Administration, Smita Sethi, said the findings showed clear violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe law requires that ghee contain only milk fat. All listed batches carried substances that do not occur in milk.

Authorities have used powers under Sections 30(2)(a) and 18(1)(g) of the Act to stop sale, display and distribution across the Union Territory. Food Business Operators must halt sales, declare stock within 48 hours and start immediate recalls.

Field officers have been told to enforce the order and block further circulation. Manufacturers can request re analysis at any FSSAI notified referral laboratory as allowed under the Act.(KNS)
