Srinagar, Dec 19 (KNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti on Friday wrote to the police seeking registration of an FIR over the alleged public humiliation of a Muslim woman doctor in Bihar, calling the incident a “grave violation of dignity and consent”.
In her letter addressed to the Station House Officer of Kothibagh Police Station here, Mufti said the incident, involving Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, had caused “immense distress and hurt among Muslims, especially women”.
Referring to visuals from an official function in Bihar, Mufti said the act of pulling down the woman’s hijab was “deeply unsettling” and amounted to a violation of her personal autonomy.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelShe said the incident reflected a broader pattern of discrimination faced by Muslims in the country.
Mufti alleged that such actions reinforced an atmosphere of fear and humiliation for Muslim women and accused political leaders in power of normalising conduct that undermines constitutional values.
Calling for immediate legal action, the PDP leader urged the police to register an FIR and ensure accountability, asserting that dignity and consent must be protected irrespective of religion or political position.
She said the incident was not an isolated one and demanded equal application of the law to prevent further erosion of minority rights.(KNS).
