IUST Students Gain Practical Exposure at DIPR

Srinagar, December 22 (KNS) : Students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), on monday undertook an educational visit to the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) to gain first-hand practical exposure to communication and media management.

During the visit, senior DIPR officers, including Joint Director Information Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari; Deputy Director Kashmir, Mohd. Rafiq; Culture Officer, Burhan Hussain; and Information Officer, Maheer Thakur, interacted with the students and provided detailed briefings on the department’s functioning. The students were familiarised with the role of DIPR, its organisational hierarchy, human resource structure, and the working of various sections, including the audio-visual and new media wings.

Addressing the students, the Culture Officer highlighted diverse career opportunities in public relations, corporate communication and graphic designing, urging them to explore emerging avenues in the rapidly evolving media landscape.

The Information Officer briefed the students on the functioning of the Social Media Cell, which disseminates information on government policies, programmes, achievements and daily activities through platforms such as Facebook, X, YouTube and Instagram.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe also elaborated on the designing and publicity work undertaken by the department.

As part of the visit, the students toured the Divisional Newsroom at the office of the Joint Director Information, Kashmir, where they gained insights into the process of receiving, verifying, editing and disseminating news inputs to print, electronic and digital media. They also visited the Advertisement Verification Section, Audio-Visual Unit, recording studio and editing room, gaining practical understanding of content production and verification mechanisms.

The exposure visit proved to be a valuable learning experience, enabling students to better understand the role of the Information Department in public communication and media coordination, while complementing their academic knowledge with hands-on experience.(KNS
