Jammu, Dec19 (KNS) : Mohd. Suleman Choudhary, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Traffic, J&K, on friday chaired a review meeting with senior officers of Traffic Police J&K to assess preparedness and review contingency measures in view of the adverse weather advisory forecasting heavy rainfall and snowfall across hilly as well as plain areas of the Union Territory in coming days.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Junaid Mehmood, IPS, DIG Traffic Range Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmed Bhat, IPS, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, Mohd. Rashid Bhat, JKPS, Amit bhasin -JKPS SSP traffic city Jammu ,Staff Officer to IGP Traffic J&K, Ravinder Paul Singh, JKPS, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, Raja Adil Hamid, JKPS, SSP Traffic NHW Raman, Farooq Qaiser, JKPS, SSP Traffic Rural Jammu & Arvinder Singh Kotwal, JKPS, Addl. SP Traffic City Jammu.
During the meeting, the IGP Traffic J&K issued clear and firm directions to all officers to remain fully prepared to effectively manage any eventuality arising due to heavy snowfall, particularly at vulnerable stretches such as Qazigund and Banihal. SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir and SSP Traffic NHW Ramban were directed to identify and earmark safe locations for parking and holding of vehicles in the event of traffic suspension.
SSP Traffic City Srinagar was instructed to identify suitable holding areas within city limits and strictly regulate vehicular movement towards Qazigund during periods of heavy snowfall.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelSimilarly, SSP Traffic City Jammu was directed to identify appropriate holding areas for vehicles.
The IGP Traffic J&K further directed that adequate number of cranes, recovery vehicles and breakdown assistance teams shall be kept readily available at identified locations, especially along National Highway stretches and other vulnerable road sections, to ensure immediate clearance of stranded, disabled or stuck vehicles. Officers were also instructed to ensure availability of sufficient manpower, snow-clearance coordination, reflective barricades, signage and traffic management equipment on ground.
He further emphasized enhanced visible presence of traffic personnel, particularly during peak hours and adverse weather conditions, timely dissemination of traffic advisories through print, electronic and social media platforms and close coordination with district administrations, Police, NHAI, BRO and other Departments. All Traffic Control Units were directed to remain operational round-the-clock for real-time monitoring and swift response.
The meeting concluded with directions to ensure seamless inter-agency coordination, proactive traffic regulation and prioritization of public safety during the anticipated adverse weather conditions.(KNS)
