Srinagar, Sep 8 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister's Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani on Tuesday said the issue related to the demand for stipend hike by MBBS interns and other students was under "active consideration" and expressed hope that it would be resolved at the earliest.
"The matter of MBBS interns and other students is under consideration. Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo is pursuing it and is in talks with the concerned authorities," Wani told reporters here as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
Trainee doctors at Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across the Valley have been protesting for the past several days, demanding a substantial revision in their monthly stipend. The agitating interns have threatened to intensify their stir if no written assurance is issued by the administration.
Health Minister Sakina Itoo had earlier described the demands as "genuine" and said the matter was being processed with the Finance Department. However, the interns have remained firm on their demand for a formal written order before calling off their protest. (KNS)
