High level meeting to discuss law & order situation, feedback on likely impact of restoring Internet services across J&K

Srinagar, Jan 12 (KNS): The top administration in the Jammu and Kashmir union territory is likely convening a high level meeting this week to review the security situation and other important issues.

Sources told KNS that the administration will seek feedback from the top security officials on the current situation and the likely impact of restoring the Internet services across J&K.

Interestingly the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday has told the Jammu Kashmir administration to review the Internet ban, while terming the access to Net in the modern age as a fundamental right.

Sources said that it is highly expected that the meeting would prepare a response to the decision by SC, which on Friday, asked the administration to review its ban on Internet within a week.

Sources said that the meeting will analyse the feedback from all the top officials before taking any decision on restoring of the internet.  “Government is not against restoring internet, but it has to be cautious if the Internet is fully restored. However the government is committed to opening the communications in a phased manner,” the official sources maintained.

The government sources pointed out that the government has already restored broadband services to hospitals in Kashmir and further steps would depend on the situation.

Sources told KNS that it is likely that the broadband and leased line services would be restored in the Kashmir region.

However sources said that the general view among the security agencies was that the restoration of mobile internet was risky.

Sources said that the home minister Amit Shah on Saturday was briefed about the present internal security situation and many important matters relating to law and order in J&K. (KNS
