Handwara Police Seize 21 Deodar Logs in Anti-Smuggling Raid, One Arrested

Handwara, July 21 (KNS): In a major crackdown on illegal timber smuggling, Handwara Police have seized 21 logs of Deodar wood from a cowshed in Haril village and arrested one person involved in the offence.

Acting on specific intelligence, a team from Police Station Qalamabad raided the cowshed of Bashir Ahmad Najar, son of Ghulam Nabi Najar, a resident of Dhobi Mohalla, Haril. During the search, 21 illegally stored Deodar logs were recovered and seized in the presence of witnesses as per legal procedures.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

An FIR (No. 24/2025) has been registered under Section 303(2) of the BNS and Section 26 of the Forest Act at PS Qalamabad. The accused has been taken into custody, and investigations are underway to trace the source of the timber and identify possible links to a wider forest smuggling network.

Handwara Police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the region’s forest resources and warned of strict action against those involved in illegal logging and smuggling. (KNS)
