Jammu, July 24 (KNS): Members of the Gujjar-Bakarwal community living near the Tawi River in Jammu have issued a heartfelt appeal to the UT administration, seeking urgent measures to protect their lives and livelihoods from recurring floods and poor road conditions.
The community, which has been residing in the area for over 40 years, said every flood brings destruction damaging homes, sweeping away livestock, and cutting off access to schools for their children.
“Our homes are damaged, animals lost, and children can’t reach school. As nomadic people, don’t we have the right to live with dignity?Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelWe vote, yet our pain is ignored,” said a community member.
They urged the administration to construct concrete embankments along both sides of the Tawi River to prevent future floods and to repair local roads for safer movement, especially for school-going children.
“If our demands are not met, we will peacefully protest outside the Civil Secretariat with our families and livestock,” the community warned.
They called on the government to act swiftly and ensure basic safety, infrastructure, and dignity for their people.(KNS)
