Grand Mufti urges police to work in a compassionate manner

Srinagar, May 01 (KNS):Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Saturday urged J&K Police to behave with the people of Kashmir in a very compassionate manner at a time when pandemic Covid-19 is holding its tight grip on the J&K.

According to a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Mufti Nasir said that he has been receiving lot of complaints and allegations against police who have been allegedly beating, thrashing and misbehaving with the common masses who go out of their homes in a compulsion. He said that at the same time if someone goes to masjid to offer prayers he is allegedly being thrashed. “My appeal to the J&K police is to behave compassionately with the people as they too are part of the same society and all of us are sailing in the same boat in these challenging times,” he said.

He urged upon the people to abide the directions issued by the government which include maintaining social distancing and wearing masks while going out. Mufti reiterated that people in large numbers should not go to masjids or shrines as pandemic is not over and that any mistake can cost Kashmir darely.

He added that prisoners released from various jails out of J&K are being charged hefty amount to reach their homes in Kashmir. “I have come to know that the prisoners released from Agra, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of India are being charged Rs 40,000 to 50,000 by the drivers and touts to reach home. Where from they would get this amount when they just step out of the jails,” he said.

Mufti Nasir said if GoI is releasing these prisoners, it should also facilitate their smooth travel and homecoming. “By releasing these prisoners, they are being exposed to a great risk,” he said. (KNS)
