Srinagar, Jan 23 (KNS): The government today formed five member team to be led by Additional SP Crime Branch Kashmir Peerzada Naveed to probe the rape and murder of the minor girl from Kathua.
As per an order issued by the Additional Director General of Police, State Crime Branch, Jammu, the team which besides SP Naveed consists of Nisar Hussain, Dy SP Crime Branch Jammu, Shetambari Sharma, Dy SP Crime Branch Jammu, Urfan Wani, SI CB Jammu and ASI Tariq Ahmad (No. 118/CR of P/S CBK).
“The team should finalsie the investigation expeditiously and submit progress report to this office on regular basis,” the order issued today.
An 8-year-old girl was abducted on January 12 from near her home in Rasana. She was allegedly sexually abused before her dead body was recovered in forest area around 3 km away from her home.
As soon as the question hour ended in the ongoing Assembly today, Abdul Rehman Veeri, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Revenue, stood up from his seat and informed the house that Kathua girls rape and murder case has been handed over to the Crime Branch. Veeri said the agency will start a fresh probe into the incident.
Her death has triggered protests inside and outside the Assembly, as opposition blamed the police for “not making efforts” to trace her after she was abducted.
Earlier the government had ordered a magisterial inquiry into the case and also suspended the SHO Hiranagar. (KNS)
