Finance Ministry puts speculations to rest

Srinagar, Jan 09 (KNS): Amid the speculations that the government employees in Jammu and Kashmir would get an enhanced medical allowance under the 7th pay commission, the state administration on Tuesday hinted that no such proposal is under consideration.
According to the KNS correspondent, during the ongoing budget session in the state legislature, former speaker and NC MLA Mohammad Akbar Lone asked government over whether it intends to enhance the Medical Allowance of state government employees from Rs 300 at present to Rs 1000/ under the benefits covered in the 7th pay commission in view of the inflation.
The state finance minister in his written reply to Lone’s question informed the state legislature about the medical insurance scheme being launched by the present government for the state government employees. However, the minister is his reply didn’t mention anything about government’s intention to enhance the medical allowance of the state government employees from Rs 300 at present to Rs 1000 under the 7th pay commission.
The state government employees at present in addition to their basic pay get 136 percent of Dearness Allowance, 20 percent Housing Rent Allowance (HRA) for those posted in Srinagar and 10 percent for rural areas. Besides that the government employees get 300 Rs as medical allowance from the government.
Speculations earlier were rife that the state government employees would get enhancement of their medical allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 under the 7th pay commission. (KNS)
